Floors, garage ceilings, long runs
A roll is the same fiberglass as a batt, in a long blanket. It wins on floors over garages, crawl ceilings, and any straight run where a hundred cut pieces would leave a hundred seams.
Where it belongs
The floor over a garage is the cold bedroom. A continuous roll in those joists, fitted to depth and held up so it stays against the subfloor, is the usual fix. Crawl ceilings get the same treatment when the bays are long and even.
We still cut for pipes, crossing joists, and the ends. A roll is not an excuse to leave the edges open.
Why not a pile of batts
Batts in a long floor mean a seam every four feet, and seams are where the blanket fails. A roll covers the span. It still has to be thick enough for the bay. Compressing a roll to squeeze it in is how the labeled R-value disappears.

- Crawl ceilings with a straight shot and a way to hold the blanket up.
- Not an attic. An attic is a blow.
